Imagine a day when there is no buffering time while you're watching a video from the net. Imagine a day when you can talk to your family at hometown via your own TV and watch the same movie. Imagine watching unlimited channels and ability to do work at the same time on the same screen.
Imagine that and more!
It can be possible when we have high speed internet internet. And I'm not talking about max of 4mbps. Instead, it will be 100x faster!
Who is planning to bring (finally!) this 'miracle' to our home? Who else but our dear monopoly-king-telco of our own country - TM! Thank god. It's about time they do something more aggressive so that I can boast to my Singaporean friends - "Siapa heran hi-speed? I also got in my country lah!". Haha. We don't want them berlagak (showing off) their Mio TV without ours to berlagak back, right? Sure, TM got Hypp.TV (internet TV) set up and all but without high speed internet the impact won't be the same.
Anyway, the deal is High Speed Broad Band (HSBB) will initially be deployed via DSL in the Klang Valley, Iskandar Malaysia and key industrial zones throughout the country. It is expected that 1.3 million premises will have the ability to access HSBB coverage by end 2012.
This hi speed broadband upgrade will definately trigger exponential growth in many areas! I think this is great news to people who love to be 'connected' (smooth one while at that!). Unless you are allergic to society and people, the multiple advantages of hi speed broad band is highly awaited by everyone. Of course, with this also comes the need to tighten the security for improper content. The fast streaming technology will make it more tricky to filter improper sites and attacks (porn, virus, spam etc). Discovering your kids watching porn at 4 years old will be a nightmare you don't want to see!
As usual - all GLC (government linked company) plans should be taken with a pinch of salt. Objective wise - by end of next year a big chunk of area in the high economic impact category should already be able to enjoy the hi-speed upgrade. And by end of 2012 the rest will be covered.
The plan is promising. Now. let's pray the implementation would be trouble free. I want to have access to information easily - whatever I want, whenever I want, wherever I am!
